Abstract

Objective: This study was designed to examine the causal relationships between factors associated with satisfaction of implant treatment and willingness towards retreatment, as well as willingness to recommend others mediated by treatment satisfaction.

Methods: A total of 257 participants aged 18 to 79 years that had visited 6 dental clinics located in Daegu city participated in this cross-sectional study. For the baseline, information on demographic status and treatment characteristics were obtained from each participant and 6 months after the implant surgery was completed, the patients¡¯ satisfaction was surveyed. Using four latent variables related to implant therapy such as functional aspects, maintenance aspects, aesthetic aspects and monetary aspects, a structural equation modeling analysis was performed.

Results: Functional aspects, maintenance aspects and aesthetic aspects had a positive effect on treatment satisfaction, whereas the monetary aspect shows no significant effect on treatment satisfaction. Functional aspects (¥â=0.562, p£¼0.05) and aesthetic aspects (¥â=0.454, p£¼0.05) had a stronger effect on treatment satisfaction compared to maintenance aspects (¥â=0.149, p£¼0.05). In addition, treatment satisfaction critically influenced the willingness towards retreatment (¥â=0.711, p£¼0.05) and willingness to provide recommendations (¥â=0.743, p£¼0.05).

Conclusion: The results obtained from this study may contribute to enhanced treatment satisfaction for patients, as well as improve efficiency of treatment for dentists following implant surgery based on factors related to treatment satisfaction and causal relationships between those factors and retreatment, as well as recommendation mediated by treatment satisfaction.
